Creating Kindness Blog Hop – Color Inspiration

Creating Kindness Blog Hop

Welcome to this month’s Creating Kindness Blog Hop. For the month of October we are all featuring projects that have been inspired by color. I have chosen to create a card with a painted watercolor background look. I used the look and technique of creating a galaxy watercolored background to feature my favorite color of blue.

Scroll down for the list of blogs featured in this hop. Be sure to visit as many of the design team member’s projects as you can for more great ideas!

Color Inspiration in Cardmaking

My hands down, favorite color combination to work with is blue and brown. It is the make up of the sky and earth. Shadows and light. However it’s labeled, I just like it. The little deer image in Merry Little Labels stamp set is also a current favorite. It’s so darling and gentle, it inspired me to create this serene evening winter sky using the galaxy technique.

Creating a Galaxy Background on Watercolor Paper

Creating projects with a high intensity of color bring a smile to my face. Working with my favorite color is a huge bonus! Winter skies can be dreary and dull but at the right moments they are spectacular. I used the Galaxy background technique for this card.

Galaxy Watercolor Background Tips

Choose a variety of colors, from shades both light and dark, that all compliment one another

Completely dampen the watercolor paper with tap water and your paintbrush before adding ink

Begin with light colors first and be generous but leave some areas of white space

Move in darker color without completely covering the light shades. These light areas will show up nicely when finished.

Before adding the darkest color, apply drop of tap water and blot it up with a towel, to create variance of color

When adding darkest color, balance areas on each area of the card. (not too much dark on one side)

Lastly, add flicks of Wink of Stella and/or white ink for stars and sparkle
