Possibilities of blue watercolor

Hello and thanks for stopping by today! I love the color blue. Blue skies are big and wide back in my home state of Texas. Blue waters are equally as enticing. The possibilities of blue watercolor can’t go wrong. Any techniques will appear natural and either resemble something I look up to see or dip my toes in, lol. Not too much blues during our winter here in the North East so I’m thinking of birdsong, floral scents, crystal blue waters and blue skies. But.. my paradise isn’t too tropical, as I am not a fan of perspiration in my daydreams!

Petal Palette stamp set

Simple flowers that stamp as if they were hand colored are an easy way to achieve the watercolor look. Paired with blue skies or blue water, it’s easy to spend less time on the stamping and more time to create the background. I chose Calypso Coral to stamp the flowers, in a few different generations of ink. Stamping off first allows just a bit of ink to stay on the stamp and grant a lighter shade of color. It looks natural and gives easy variety to the project’s overall effect.

Watercolor Smooshing Technique

spritz.dip.dry.repeat

Achieving possibilities of blue watercolor have never been so easy for me as with the ink smooshing, or watercolor smooshing, technique. Start with a Silicone craft mat, rub a stamp pad directly onto the surface, spritz with tap water. Allow the ink to dilute and gather into tiny pools and then dip the watercolor paper directly into the ink. I find it is best to bring the paper straight down then straight up, turn right side up and allow to dry. If you are short on time, use the low setting on a heat gun to speed up the process. Repeat this process until the look you had in mind is what you see on paper. It’s really amazing to see the results!
