Stamping Sunday Blog Hop Guest Designer

Hello and thanks for stopping by today! Today I am honored to be included as Guest Designer in the Stamping Sunday Blog Hop. The Design Team and I are creating projects with Petal Palette, from the 2018 Occasions Catalog. Many thanks to Sara Levin for featuring me as a guest in this group of amazing crafters and including me in the fun! Below are links to all of the blogs in this Hop, showing more ideas. I have chosen to add a few techniques to create mood with ink blending in my project.

A pretty piece of patterned paper is delicious. Often while creating a project I will take a cue on developing the color scheme from the patterned paper. In choosing to add color to the background paper, I took inspiration from one of my favorite times of day. Echoing the blue/gray light will tie the colored elements together and help to draw the eye around the project. Check it out in your next creation and get a feel for connecting colors. This rose stamp is gorgeous! And it’s easy to color as well which makes it doubly attractive to me. I colored the image with Stampin’ Blends markers, adding in highlights with a chalk marker.

Creating mood lighting with ink blending

Over the past week I have been featuring projects that were requested by my readers and viewers from my YouTube Channel. One of the most requested projects was to demonstrate more work with ink blending. This is an area that gives many crafters trouble, and I am happy to help with a few hints to create successful projects.

TIP:  set yourself up for success with the proper tools

By coloring the patterned paper with a sponge brayer, the ink blends in a slow process and builds until you reach the level of desired color. It’s easy to get smooth transitions in color, as I have done here with blue and gray. My motivation was to emulate the light I see in the morning, before the sun starts to sparkle on the dew. This is an indirect light that is soft and brings shadows into focus more easily than during full daylight. I added more gray under the stamped area and transitioned into the blue in a northeast direction. Brayers are an excellent way to acquaint yourself with ink blending!

  1. This is a gorgeous card Jenny, loving the ink blending on the Designer Series Paper, you have achieved just the lighting look you were going for. Love the blue roses (snap), and the way you have set your layers up give the card a stylish elegance. Beautiful.
