Create Words from Die Cuts
This week at theTGIF Challenge, there is a tic-tac-toe challenge! The idea is to choose a line on the grid and make a card to fit the description. I chose the second line, which is to create a card with twine/ribbon plus DSP plus doilies. An idea has been floating in my imagination to create words from die cuts to form the word “Christmas”. We do not currently carry such a die, and my imagination created a way to make what I need. Let’s check it out!
This is a great opportunity to create a card with any products you wish while following the idea of a pre set theme. Be sure to go over to the page and check out all of the Design Team’s cards this week and if you are up to a challenge…. add a photo of your card as well!
Sunshine Wishes Dies & Thoughtful Banners
Here is a challenge for you… look at your dies in a new way.
Do you have a set of dies that can serve more than one purpose? I bet you do! Sunshine Wishes Dies has four words in a nice sized font that works well on any card. By using the letters from the die cut words, I was able to form c-h-r-i-s-t-m-a-s and feature it on this card to create words from die cuts. Nothing secret to divulge, just a little creativity to share with you. Now having the nice big greeting, how to set the scene?
Checking out my stamp sets with a variety of words, I discovered there would be many great phrase combinations for this project. Because I wanted the message to be clear and easy to discern, I chose to utilize Thoughtful Banners for it’s size and easy to read font. All that was required now is Designer Series Paper, a doily and twine. Wood Textures DSP would lend a rustic feel in combination with some pine branch die cuts that could be attached with a Linen Thread bow. Slide in a doily and there it is.
Create Words from Die Cuts Technique
I did feel a bit like a surgeon while snipping apart the letters and carefully building the word c-h-r-i-s-t-m-a-s . The way the words are built, it really was not hard to figure out a natural placement of the letters. With all of the letters in Sunshine Wishes Dies, there is however not the letter “m”. By building two “n’s” and overlapping the middle area, the “M” crisis was averted, lol. This was a fun card to create, as can imagine.
All of the steps to follow are outlined in the below graphic.
measurements for this project
Whisper White Thick card stock card base is 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ (scored and folded)
