Magical Mermaid Stamp Set
Mermaids…. swoon! This week at the What Will You Stamp challenge, we are stamping with Magical Mermaid stamp set. I am as in love with the little mermaid stamp as the large mermaid stamp, but had not yet used the little one in a project. She screams clean and simple to me, so here is my clean and simple card with Magical Mermaid. Because this week I am featuring creative backgrounds as a theme for all of my projects, I came up with a way to roll all three into one. Be sure to go over to the page and check out all of the Design Team’s cards this week and if you are up to a challenge…. add a photo of your card as well!

Magical Mermaid stamp set
My kids are in love with mermaids, thanks to the many children’s programs featuring our mermaid friends. The one common factor my oldest son views in this stamp set is that he can not see the mermaid’s face. So to solve the issue, we draw a face on the opposite side of the card stock 🙂 The entire stamp set is fantastic. The seaweed stamp looks great as an accent so I chose to use silver embossing so it would set itself away from the water stamp. By creating a die cut medallion, the mermaid appears far enough in the background to be at a distance in the water. I really like how she turned out in this project!
Generational stamping in a design
Whatever the term you know it by, generational stamping (or stamping off) is a super way to give a variety to your background. By adding the first generation of ink closer to the sentiment medallion, I gave the lesser generations of ink that were stamped farther away from the sentiment a chance to fade out in the background.
First Generation of ink: Ink up the stamp and apply directly to paper
Second Generation of ink: after stamping onto paper once, use what is left on the stamp and apply it to the design
Third and further Generations of ink: Each time it’s stamped, there is always some ink left on the stamp. Although it gets lighter every time it is stamped onto paper, it can be used in a design as a very light image
