Large Die Cuts
This week, the Global Design Project challenge is lending inspiration from designer Shawn De Oliveira for a cardmaking challenge. The idea is to create a card design that features a certain design combination by Shawn’s example. His design sense of clean lines and crisp colors never fail to inspire! To view the projects for this challenge, please visit the Global Design Project page by clicking here. I am creating a card today featuring a new product called Label Me Pretty stamps that coordinates with the Pretty Label Punch. These products are available in the upcoming Annual catalog.
Creating Large Die Cuts
Butterflies Thinlits die was the first idea I had when looking at this week’s challenge. Using a large die cut as a focal point will help to create a project quickly with striking results. Today’s project will be easy for you to duplicate with great results.
Focal Point from die cuts
Small die cuts blend easily into most designs but a large die cut steals the show. My kids love the image of this large butterfly and like seeing it on a card. Pairing gold, Crumb Cake and Perfect Plum with this large butterfly are easy on the eye and a nice color combination. For a visual demonstration of this card, please see the link to a YouTube video tutorial below.
Measurements for this project are:
Crumb Cake card base: 8 1/2″” x 5 1/2″, scored at 4 1/4″
Very Vanilla card stock layer: 3 3/4″ x 5″ + scrap for sentiment
Gold Foil card stock scrap for die cut
Perfect Plum card stock scrap for die cut backing
