Spring watercolor flowers using Special Reason

Birdsong, spring colors and warmer temperatures are headed our way. I am not a huge fan of the heat but I do love the colors that the flowers give us in Spring. Today I have created my own spring garden using rubber stamps and a water mister. Stampin Spritzer has many uses in my craft room, let’s check out one use today.

The Paper Chain Gang Challenge is to make a “spring” themed card project, all during the month of March. Check out the cards by clicking here.

Measurements for this project are:

scraps of Whisper White and Sweet Sugarplum for die cuts
Watercolor paper: 3 7/8″ x 5 1/8″
Whisper White card stock layer: 4″ x 5 1/4″
So Saffron card base is 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ (cut from 4 1/4″ x 11″)

Several elements make this card attractive to me. I like the depth of color that is given by misting the inked stamps with water. The three ink colors I chose for the flowers share a common color tone. To try this color combo selection, choose three stamp pads that have common base colors and you may just have discovered your next best thing.

The sentiment is from Designer Tee stamp set. I chose to stamp in Perfect Plum, to compliment the natural colors and add just a nice bit of texture with placing it on die cuts. Sparkly sequins finish off the sunny scene.

Spritzing water on an inked up stamp is nothing new but to give your card a fresh look, try thinking of the colors. The green paired with pink and purples are all natural colors so they will compliment one another. I first apply ink to a stamp in the usual fashion, and then use a Stampin Spritzer to spray a light coat of water on the stamp. Getting various shades can be easy with using a second generation of ink on the stamp. In other words, stamp off first. I will explore this technique in an upcoming Online Creative Cards class. Be sure to check out the March classes that will explore using Creative Die Cuts.

I made a video tutorial for my newsletter subscribers for this card project. Are you subscribed to my newsletter?
