Faux watercoloring and Vintage Leaves with video

Spring will be here soon. Can we stay in Spring and keep away from Summer? We have had a few sneak peeks of Spring at our New Jersey home and I can say, bring it on. I’m ready for some green! Thinking so much about Spring inspired this card. What better technique than a little spritzing and stamping to create a faux watercolored look?

Measurements for this project are:

scraps of Whisper White and Pear Pizzazz for die cuts
Watercolor paper: 3 3/4″ x 5″  and a little scrap of Vellum for the bird die cut
Chocolate Chip card stock layer: 3 7/8″ x 5 1/8″
Whisper White card stock layer: 4″ x 5 1/4″
Pear Pizzazz card base is 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ (cut from 4 1/4″ x 11″)

Several elements make this card attractive to me. I like the color contrast of green on white and I like the feel of the embossing on the sentiment. Making the leaves different shades creates a look of depth and I can really imagine the sun shining through these leaves 🙂

The sentiment is from Sending Thoughts stamp set. I chose to heat emboss it in copper, to compliment the natural colors and add just a nice bit of texture. Oh! Make sure not to miss the teeny tiny bird die cut next to the sentiment.

For a visual demonstration of this project, take a look at the video I made for this project.

Spritzing water on an inked up stamp is nothing new but to give your card a fresh look, try thinking of the colors. The green paired with white and brown are all natural colors so they will compliment one another. I first apply ink to a stamp in the usual fashion, and then use a Stampin Spritzer to spray a light coat of water on the stamp. Getting various shades can be easy with using a second generation of ink on the stamp. In other words, stamp off first. I will explore this technique in an upcoming Online Creative Cards class. Be sure to check out the March classes that will explore using Creative Die Cuts.

This is not a new stamp set, it’s been around for quite some time. There is good reason for that too! Is there a favorite way you like using this stamp? I would love to see what you are crafting.
