Swan Lake with silver heat embossing

Do you find yourself working on a project and then side tracked by another idea? I was recently working on a card and then came across this paper. It reminded me of how Monet painted water and I had to stop and give it a long look. Then I could picture swans a-swimming in this water and I remembered that I have a stamp set with swans! Sometimes ideas are inspired from what we see at just a glance.

Being as the background paper is so busy, I wanted to give minimal effort to the swans, thus I chose to use silver embossing powder for the outlines. I stamped onto Watercolor paper and used the Watercolor Pencils to give just a highlight of color. Once dry, I fussy cut them with scissors and popped the mama swan onto the card using Stampin Dimensionals.

To get the colors I needed to use from a pack of limited colored pencils, I scribbled a few colors onto a scrap of Watercolor paper. I then muddled the colors with the water brush and brought the ink to the paper. Mixing colors in this way can lead to loads of new colors.
