This past Christmas, my kids (we have 2 boys aged 3 and 5) gifted me two sets of watercolors. One of the sets is a beautiful set of metallic watercolors. I have been waiting for an excuse to share a card using them and am excited to share this card with you all. I love the lines in this Moon Baby stamp set and thought this would look great in metallics!
Regular card stock works just fine for this project I have found. I used a very light coating of fluid which Basic Black card stock can handle. If I were adding layers of paint then I would certainly opt for watercolor paper. Stampin Up has very nice card stock and using black was a must for this project. A thin strip of gold glimmer paper along the left side was enough to carry through the shiny theme.
Measurements for this project are:
Basic Black paper: 5 1/2″ x 3 1/2″
Gold Glimmer paper strip: 1/4″ x 5 1/2″
Sahara Sand card base is 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″
The images were first stamped with VersaMark ink (clear sticky ink) to allow Gold embossing powder to stick to the stamped lines. Once the powder is stuck in place, I used a heat tool to melt the granules. The lines appear drawn in gold and I really like the look of gold on black. Any small brush will work for watercoloring, or a waterbrush may also be used. I picked up a very light coating of metallic paint and applied a thin layer inside the embossed lines. After painting the images, I flicked some of the paint using the brush, onto the card to create splatter marks. It looks kind of like stars, don’t you think?
