Have you checked out the new embossing folder in the Occasions catalog? Wow! This is one of the new 3D folders. It does not look like or behave as a traditional embossing folder. The impressions that are made by this folder are not just something you can see but you can really feel the difference as well. There are 3 levels of design that I can see and it is really a fun tool to work with. Let’s check out what I came up with for this first time around using the folder.
I used a Whisper White card base measuring 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ after scored and folded. To decorate the card front, I used a piece of black card stock and a piece of vellum. Stampin’ Up’s vellum cardstock works really well and is perfect for this folder. To use the folder, your die cut machine must be layered differently. I use the newest base plate sold by Stampin Up so these directions are for using that plate only. Call Sizzix for instructions if you have a different base plate to see how they can help you if you can’t get the folder to work. DO NOT force the folder through the machine, you could damage the machine and that’s not going to help you in your cardmaking 🙂
The “sandwich” layers I used are as follows: Newest Base Plate first, Hexagon embossing folder with single piece of paper inside is second, and one clear cutting pad is on top. That’s it. No thin die adapter and no bottom cutting pad. The folder went through easily and made a great impression. For more instructions, refer to the back of the embossing folder packaging.
For my focal image, I cut a section out of the Inside the Lines DSP (patterned paper). This is the new patterned paper that looks like adult coloring book images. This paper is sturdy and blank on the back. This works perfectly to color and cut out an image to attach to a card. And that’s exactly what I did! I used a Peekaboo Peach stamp pad and Blender Pen to color the flower image and left everything else blank. So, the only color is on this flower. Pretty cool, huh? I decided to add a section of ribbon to carry the image. I used glue dots to attach the vellum to the black paper and used dimensionals to attach the flower to the ribbon. I finished off the card with a few silver sequins and a heat embossed sentiment from All Things Thanks. This is a new stamp set that has a ton of great thank you sentiments.
