Hello crafters! Today I bring you a detailed preview of my
favorite things from the 2016 Stampin’ Up! Holiday Catalog. I can not show you the inside of the catalog until September 1st but can can review the things I have purchased. Some of the things to consider are two-packs of markers, tiny jingle bells, Halloween edgelits, haunted mason jars, cookie cutter kids, ghoulish grunge textures, 3D embossing folder, tons of designer paper and more!
I will start with the Presents & Pinecones Suite (located on page 19). Stampin’ Up! has done a great job of coordinating in this suite of products. The dies (Pretty Pines Thinlits Dies 141851) are super! Three dimensional pine branches !?! Yes, please!!! The stamps (Christmas Pines 142049) work with the dies or on their own. There are a few large sentiments (which I prefer) and a nice sized frame for the smaller sentiments. It looks like we have more 3-step stamping opportunities for creating visual dimension in this set. The DSP (Presents & Pinecones DSP 141986) has a nice colorway to include a golden yellow (Delightful Dijon) and there is a few pages that have large enough motifs that you can fussy cut. There is silk taffeta ribbon (141989) in two colors and a marvelous embossing folder (Pine Bough TIEF 141831) that features a few pine branches with a ton of possibilities. The cardstock pack (Presents & Pinecones cardstock pack 141987) comes in three colors and is a great way to get enough paper colors for your project without purchasing a single pack for each color. Nicely done, Stampin’ Up! Also not included in my photo are: Mini Pinecones accents, an Emerald Envy Ombre stamp pad and a set of washi tape. Overall, I feel this is well thought out suite of products that have enough varied colors and thingamabobs that will be great for more than one holiday year of crafting. It is by far, the best bang for your buck in the catalog, in my humble opinion.
Looking forward to Autumn, I am really liking the Petals & Paisleys Suite of products (located on pg 46). The stamps (Paisleys & Posies 142196) are wonderful! I love the paisley and flowers with their classic design. Vibrant purples and golds are paired with muted greens in the DSP (Petals & Paisleys Specialty DSP 142017) and two pages have copper foil accents. The copper tones are great for Fall crafting. There are several pages that have large motifs as well and can be fussy cut or use the coordinating dies (Paisley Framelits Dies 141849). Pairing nicely are the Pretty Paisleys embossing folder (141833) and ribbon (3/8″ Ribbon Trio Pack) with 3 colors that perfectly match the paper. Also in the suite but not exclusive to it, are Copper Foil Sheets cardstock (142020)! I love using foil sheets in my cardmaking. I get the color and flash all in one. Another cardstock pack (Petals & Paisleys Cardstock pack 142018) gives us 3 colors of cardstock in one purchase. The stamps & dies can be bundled to gain a 10% discount, which is always appreciated. Overall, this grouping of products can be used year round and is a great addition to my arsenal and I hope to yours as well. I’m thinking of Easter cards and teacher cards…
We have some great independent stamps sets in this catalog (located on pg 14, 22, 23 & 54). Most feature the hand drawn look with etched shading that is a great help for coloring the images. I am in love with these mice (Merry Mice 142145)! Whimsical cards will be great using these little guys. The Christmas train in Christmas Magic (142119) is a keeper too! The angel featured in Wonder of Christmas (142139) brings us Joy to the World and sentiments like “the Lord has come” are timeless. Another keeper, guys! Rounding off this quartet is a Halloween stamp set (Mr Funny Bones 142245) lets you build your own skeleton. How fun is that? My kids are going to be getting a lesson in anatomy with them bones, lol. With sentiments like “break a leg” and “you stole my heart”, this will suit crafting for many different occasions. There are many more independent stamp sets in this catalog but I feel these are must haves for my crafting and thought you would benefit from taking a look at them. Also there are loads of accessories such as tassels. I think you will love it!
The project kits (located on pg 35) are nicely done in the catalog. There is a Tin of Tags plus many other project kits. The one that caught my eye the most is the Forever Evergreen Project Kit (142994) and it coordinating stamp set (Forever Evergreen 142184). Every year, I visit EVERY craft store in town, plus a few online, looking for Christmas crafts to make with my family. Some of these crafts are gifted to friends and family and some kind of grow with us. I love pulling out the things I made with my kids when they were younger and seeing how far their abilities are taking them. I think that decorating a Christmas tree will work perfectly for crafting with kids. As with all of Stampin’ Up!’s kits, everything you will need is taken care of. There is a convenient list of items that accompany the kit that you need to purchase to ensure your experience goes well. This kit has a great set of accessories for decorating the trees and the stamps help you personalize each piece. One or all of these trees would also work well for a small holiday tree for a person with limited space for decorating. Make it and then gift it!
“Oh-oooo…Star of wonder, star of light” My son’s favorite (located on pg 9) Christmas Hymn is Go Tell it on the Mountain and I am elated that we have this in image form this year! The Star of Bethlehem is wildly popular in crafting and I am excited to use these images for my holiday crafting. The dies (Starlight Thinlits Dies 141840) are intricate and can be layered upon each other. Imagine what you can do with these dies…. The stamp set (Star of Light 142110) has so many sentiments that will work in several ways. Keep your eyes peeled for the starlight swoosh, it’s already popping up on cards around the net 🙂
Did I mention that I am a holiday crafter? LOL I am usually working on gifts for family and friends year round. This bundle (located on pg 16) is very much appreciated by yours truly. How many craft sets have I purchased over the years that create handmade ornaments? Countless! This year, and many years to come, I will be able to cut an ornament pattern with one of these dies and also cut the stitching holes! I will use these dies with felt and make ornaments, to be sure. I also see using the stamps (Festive Season Stamp set 142071) on paper and cutting with the dies (Festive Stitching Thinlits Dies 141837) to stitch and then attach to a card. How about pairing them with the Pine Bough Embossing Folder? A stitched ornament hanging on a tree! As part of this grouping is Baker’s Twine Trio Pack (141999) that is perfect for threading onto the die cuts. The twine comes in red, green and metallic gold and the strands can be separated to make it easier for hand stitching. If you like the look of hand-stitched crafts, this will suit you well.
Who let the dogs out? Can you craft a dog house? Sure! (located on pg 40) How about a Gingerbread House, Haunted House, Bird House, Sweet Cottage…… You get the picture. Making a three dimensional house is easy peasy with this bundle. First cut out the components with Home Sweet Home dies (140279) and decorate these pieces with Sweet Home stamp set (140936) and you can choose the style of your home. My kids like to decorate Gingerbread Houses every year and this will make a great addition to our family’s holiday crafting experience. This is another product that I see adding to my collection and sticking around for years and years.
There are too many accessories to choose from this year so I am bring you my favorites (located on pg 7, 41, 13 & 37) . Mica Flakes Trio Pack (141998) will be super for making shaker cards. I got two packs and will get more before the catalog ends (LOL!) just in case they go away forever. Although, I think the trend of making shaker cards will stick around for quite some time. Speaking of shaker cards, Fancy Frost Sequins (142519) are gorgeous! There are three colors included in this packaged assortment (Soft Sky, Sweet Sugarplum and white gold) and will suit cardmaking year round. I am a sucker for sequins so I got two packs 🙂 Glitter Stampin’ Emboss Powder (142668 green & 142635 red) comes to us in red and green and will work great for adding bling to our projects. Last but not least is Kraft Rope Trim (141996) with 15 yards of packing potential. Kraft and neutral colors are very trendy this year.
Do you Project Life or scrapbook? If you do, you won’t want to miss this year’s card pack (located on pg 31). If you don’t, check out what you CAN do with the Project Life cards. Project Life is a life book/scrapbooking method that is too easy to believe. Place photos and pre-made cards into clear folder pockets and BAM!… it’s done. There are places to put objects and record memories as well. It’s just the best. The pre-printed cards ( 142004) also make wonderful greeting cards! And they are sized right. This year’s offerings are in Emerald Envy green and Kraft brown colors with Silver Foil accents. Darling colors and designs with this pack. Project Life is a great way to get the kids involved in memory keeping as well. The Accessory pack (142693) has a stamp set and loads of embellishments including an exclusive washi tape. One thing featured that you won’t ant to miss is the Variety Pack 2 6″x8″ Project Life Photo Pocket Pages (142010) that you can use year round. Keep this set of products in mind for gift giving this year as well.
